After constructing 14 public open spaces and arranging 24 locations last year, Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting to construct 21 new public open spaces and arrange 73 locations in Jakarta.

"We constructed 14 new public open spaces and arranged 24 locations including park, green lane, city park and cemetery. Arrangement was also run at Ragunan Park Zoo by four locations," she said, Tuesday (2/11).

She added that Jakarta City Park and Forestry Agency will construct 21 public open spaces like 15 new parks, three city parks, one cemetery, one green lane and one Seed Garden open space.

The other 73 locations will also be arranged that include 24 parks, eight green lanes, 20 cemeteries, seven city parks, four seed gardens and 10 spots at Ragunan Park Zoo.

According to him, the budget to construct 14 new public open spaces reached Rp 25 billion. Then for this year is allocated Rp 87.6 billion to construct 21 new public open spaces and arrange 73 locations.

"The budget is prepared for wider development and good quality since the need of green open space in Jakarta remains high. Hopefully the projects will be completed this year," she added.

During the green open space construction, she continued, the agency will apply participative approach by involving residents since the planning stage.

"We held Focus Group Discussion with local residents to hear their needs. Then we create the design plan and propose the name proposed by the residents," she continued.

The design of green open spaces also considers the characteristics of the local environment. Some parks are made with a green-blue concept to combine green elements with blue elements such as infiltration ponds or natural drainage systems to handle flood.

With this effort, she stated, Jakarta Provincial Government keeps showing its commitment in realizing Jakarta as a global city that is environmentally friendly and comfortable to live in.

"We want green open spaces as place of recreation, center of interaction between residents and communities. Moreover, green open spaces also act as the city lungs that help reducing hot temperatures and improve environmental quality," she stated.

She appeals the residents to maintain and take care the parks.
